This page is to publish information about my experience converting an old gasoline-powered motorcycle to run an electric motor from batteries.
Other online info on this cycle includes:
This project really started in the summer of 2006, after visiting the MREA Energy Fair (http://www.the-mrea.org/)
They had an alternative energy car show, including a couple of electric bicycles. I ordered an electric bike hub motor and put it on a 10-speed frame from the local thrift store.
The bike could go 0-20 in about six seconds and had a range of about 20 miles. Charging the batteries costs literally pennies. Still, I wanted to go faster, have some better suspension, lights, and heavier brakes.
The natural next step was an electric motorcycle.
This web page shows what I have done so far.
